Nissan Leaf

I got email from Nissan the other day. The date for ordering our Leaf will be in January, 2011. Can't wait! Our 2002 Prius is a fine car, a bit thin on the acceleration side though better than stock with the Pulstar plugs. But having a car that runs totally on clean, solar electric is something I've been looking forward to. Hopefully, it will not totally demotivate me from riding my bike.

  1. My dad was talking to me about the Ford Volt that uses gas to charge the battery which runs the car... Never heard of such a thing - what do you think of that?

  2. Hi CM,

The Volt is a fine car, it is just not priced for the mass market. With rebate it is around $15K more expensive than the Leaf. It is not eligible for the CA rebate due to its not being a full electric and it is not eligible for the car pool lane with one driver. The latter is a real benefit when I am late for a meeting in the late afternoon and traffic is starting to heat up on 101. But I think if I did not already have the plug-in Prius conversion, I would probably go for a Volt.

  3. PS: It is actually the GM Volt. Ford has an all-electric Fusion coming out next year, and a hybrid Fusion currently available. The hybrid gets around 40 mpg, what our 2002 Prius gets w.o. the hot spark plugs.
